Each one was illustrated, printed and framed and sent to the recipient to celebrate them, even though I couldn’t be there. The design and layout of the prints were inspired by my love of stamps. The numbers in the corners, signify the age each person was turning. The aim was to convey the emotion of the story and personality of the characters, through beautifully illustrated key scenes and moments in each story. I suggested the inclusion of a coloring page, to make the books interactive. The layout and illustrations were also adapted for Kindle. In my role as art director, I created designs for use across the magazine’s various platforms, from social media and the website to the quarterly print magazine – The Republic Journal. More about The Republic Each magazine cover was inspired by the theme of the issue and was carefully designed not only to be aesthetically pleasing and draw readers in, but also to be symbolic. First Draft is The Republic’s interview column, where writers answer questions and share their thoughts about their process, inspiration and their work. I illustrated portraits of numerous writers, to accompany their interviews which featured on social media as well as in the weekly newsletter and on the website.
